WASHINGTON, Dec. 28 (UPI) -- The Census Bureau estimated Tuesday that the United States would have a Jan. 1, 2005, population of 295,160,302 -- nearly 3 million more people than on Jan. 1, 2004.
The U.S. population increased 2,835,602 -- about 1 percent -- since last New Year's Day, the bureau estimated.

The Census Bureau release said there is one birth every 8 seconds and one death every 13 seconds in the United States. In addition, net international immigration results in the country adding a person every 26 seconds. The result is an increase of one person in the total U.S. population every 12 seconds, the bureau said.
