HELSINKI, Finland, Dec. 21 (UPI) -- After more than a year of legal struggles, a U.S. father has won a ruling from Finland's highest court enforcing his custody of his sons.
John Rogers had won custody of the sons he and his former wife, Outi Koski, had, the Helsingin Sanomat reported Tuesday.
In the summer of 2003 she took the boys, Jacob and Alexander, on what she said was a vacation to Finland.
On Sept. 3 a Finnish court, ruling on Rogers' appeal to the Hague Convention on child protection, ruled for the father. However, before that ruling could be enforced, Koski took the boys to a remote Finnish hideaway.
Recently, the mother reappeared in court, citing the boys' desire to stay in Finland with their mother. However, the Finnish Supreme Court this week found the children had lived in "exceptional circumstances" for a long time, thus influencing their views on being returned to their father.
The high court also urged authorities to enforce its decision to enforce the father's custody quickly.
