LOS GATOS, Calif., Dec. 16 (UPI) -- The recovery of a long-lost Persian rug enabled California police to make an arrest Thursday in the case of a woman who disappeared more than three years ago.
Maurice Nasmeh was taken into custody in San Jose and charged with murder in the 2001 disappearance of Jeanine Harms of Los Gatos.
Harms was last seen with Nasmeh leaving a Bay Area restaurant and then buying beer with him at a convenience store.
The San Jose Mercury News said Los Gatos police had questioned Nasmeh at the time; however, the breakthrough came only recently when a citizen volunteered a tip about a rug found at a shopping center that was missing from Harms' apartment and tied to the suspect through testing of fibers.
Harms body was never found and the case was closely watched in the Bay Area by friends and family who have held regular vigils for her.
