MELBOURNE, Dec. 13 (UPI) -- Thieves in Australia broke into the office of a charity that grants wishes to seriously ill children and stole some $13,000 in money and goods.
A safe containing cash and other items including a laptop computer were taken Sunday from the East Melbourne offices of the Starlight Children's Foundation, the Australian Broadcasting Corp., reported Monday.

"It truly isn't in the spirit of Christmas," spokeswoman Melissa Hay said. "It's one of those things, the community are so supportive of Starlight, we just can't believe that this has happened."
The cash raised would have granted Christmas wishes for nearly 600 children, Hay said.
