Mag: Karl Rove reconsidering options

WASHINGTON, Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Political consultant Karl Rove, whom U.S. President George W. Bush called the architect of his 2004 victory is not, Newsweek reports, giving up campaigns.

Prior to the president's Nov. 2 victory, Rove was giving indications that Bush's re-election effort would be his last national campaign, the magazine reports in its Dec. 6 edition. The 2008 contest, he said, "is going to be left to someone who has a little bit more energy and interest than me."

Since Bush's victory, Rove has reconsidered that pledge. "A lot of people in the White House told me that that was a really stupid thing to say. So let me say that I can't imagine spending two years away from my wife and son again, the way I did this time. But besides that, who knows?"

Rove, who talks openly about wanting to oversee the construction of a permanent Republican majority, is often compared to former Republican National Committee Chairman and Ohio Sen. Mark Hanna, the industrialist who built an enduring majority for President William McKinley.
