Greens, Libertarians file suit in Ohio

TOLEDO, Ohio, Nov. 22 (UPI) -- The Green and Libertarian party presidential candidates filed a federal suit in Ohio Monday calling for an expedited recount of the state's ballots.

The recount effort needs to be sped up, Green Party Media Director Blair Bobier told UPI, so the state can execute a meaningful recount before Ohio electors meet Dec. 13.

The candidates officially filed for a recount Friday, but have not heard back from either the Ohio secretary of state or the county electors.

"It is because we didn't get a positive response to that that our lawyer is heading to court today," Bobier said.

Green Party presidential candidate David Cobb and Libertarian candidate Michael Badnarik called for a recount in Ohio, where consumer advocates and others alleged they heard accounts of miscounts or possible fraud on Election Day and after.

A hearing on the suit could come as early as Tuesday, Bobier said.
