40 killed in Algeria in Ramadan

ALGIERS, Algeria, Nov. 16 (UPI) -- Muslim extremist groups in Algeria reportedly killed at least 40 people during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which ended during the weekend.

Algiers' French-language daily L'Expression said Tuesday the casualties included both civilians and members of the army and security forces.

In the meantime, an Algerian security source told UPI army troops killed a Muslim gunman in eastern Algeria and captured another.
