Blair to hold talks with Bush in Washington

LONDON, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- British Prime Minister Tony Blair is scheduled to hold talks with newly-re-elected U.S. President George Bush in Washington Thursday and Friday.

A spokesman for Blair said the talks would likely to focus on Iraq and the Middle East peace process, the BBC reported Sunday.

"The United Kingdom stands as one of America's closest allies, and Tony Blair as one of America's greatest friends," said a White House statement in Washington, which indicated the two leaders would also discuss how to strengthen U.S. co-operation with the United Kingdom and Europe.

However, Britain's Culture Secretary Tessa Jowell has said Bush's re-election had caused "great disappointment" for the Labor Party, which Blair heads. She said Blair must make great efforts to hammer home to Bush the importance of the Middle East peace process.
