Wash. gov race still too close to call

OLYMPIA, Wash., Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Vote counting continued Friday in the state of Washington where the race for governor was still too close to call.

The Secretary of State's office had Democrat Christine Gregoire leading Republican Dino Rossi by less than a percentage point with around 660,000 provisional and absentee ballots still being tallied.

Washington's 30 counties have until Nov. 17 to wrap up the vote count.

Both candidates remained confident they would win the office that is being vacated by incumbent Democrat Gary Locke. Rossi told the Seattle Times he expected to move into the lead as votes are counted in Spokane County and other high-population areas where he did well on Election Day.
