Reports: Arafat not ill with Leukemia

BEIRUT, Lebanon, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Initial tests made for Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat in Paris confirmed he is not suffering from cancer, a Palestinian official said Saturday.

Jibril Rajjoub, Arafat's national security advisor, was quoted on the Qatari al-Jazeera TV, monitored in Beirut, as saying, "Initial tests made in Paris were satisfactory and proved that Arafat is not suffering from Leukemia."

He said Arafat's platelet count indicated the Palestinian leader "is not suffering from cancer."

"I believe all primary data and facts indicate that President Arafat will get well very soon and recover his good health," Rajjoub added.

Arafat's health deteriorated dramatically this week leading to his transfer to a Paris hospital after Israel allowed him to leave his besieged headquarters in the West Bank city of Ramallah.
