BAGHDAD, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- A humanitarian agency with a long history of work in Iraq has ended its operations in the war-torn nation after its leader was abducted.

CARE International, which has operated in Iraq for decades, closed all Iraqi operations and urged insurgents to release its director in Baghdad, Margaret Hassan, CNN reported Friday.

She was abducted Oct. 19 by a group that did not identify itself but which put out two videotapes in which she pleads for her life and asks for the withdrawal of British forces.

Meanwhile, the abductions continued this week in Iraq: The Islamic Army in Iraq seized two Asian truck drivers Thursday; also Thursday the Abu Bakr al-Siddiq al-Salafiya Brigades said they kidnapped a Polish woman with dual Polish-Iraqi citizenship; and Tuesday the Base of Jihad , the militant group believed to be led by wanted terrorist Abu Musab Zarqawi, claimed it was holding a Japanese man.
