Bush Web site blocked outside U.S.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- President George W. Bush's re-election campaign is blocking access to its Web site outside the United States, possibly to save money, BBC News reported.

Starting in the wee morning hours of Oct. 25, Internet surfers located outside of the United States generally have been unable to access georgewbush.com, the official re-election Web site of for the re-election campaign of the president and Vice President Dick Cheney, BBC reported.

When surfers have tried to access the site they receive a reply that they are "not authorized." The shift was first noticed by Netcraft, which monitors Internet activity.

Mike Prettejohn, Netcraft's president, suggested the campaign had limited access to those in America -- that is, those Internet surfers most likely to be able to vote -- as a way to save costs. The limitations also could be a way to make sure the site does not crash from heavy use before election day Nov. 2.
