Iran rejects European offer, still talking

TEHRAN, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Iran says it will continue enriching uranium, rejecting an offer by Europe for trade concessions and alternative technology in exchange for such a halt.

"The European proposal is their preliminary proposition and is not definitive, but it is unbalanced," Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Hamid Reza Assefi said.

However, he told reporters negotiating with European countries was right, the BBC reported Sunday.

The deal put forth by Britain, France and Germany asked Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment activities in return for incentives and alternative nuclear technology, such as a light-water reactor, leaked reports said.

Iran has said its nuclear program is purely for electricity, but the United States claims Iran is secretly developing nuclear weapons.
