Bush wins election in teen vote

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush won re-election over Democrat John Kerry ,taking 55 percent of the vote of teenagers participating in a Channel One News poll.

The Massachusetts Sen. Kerry got 40 percent of the OneVote 2004 vote and 5 percent went to third-party candidates.

Nearly 1.4 million ballots were cast Oct. 19-20 in one of the largest online teen elections in history, Channel One said.

Bush won the mock vote in the swing states of Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Oregon, West Virginia, Wisconsin, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Nevada, New Hampshire and New Mexico.

Kerry won Maine.

"It is crucial to get young people in this country involved in the political process from an early age," said Jim Morris, Channel One News executive producer. Channel One News is broadcast to nearly 12,000 secondary schools nationwide via satellite.
