Bush/Kerry poll: Still too close to call

WASHINGTON, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- A CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll has found Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry and GOP nominee George Bush in a race for U.S. president too close to call.

The poll of 793 likely voters, conducted Saturday and Sunday, showed 49 percent of likely voters favored Kerry, 48 percent favored Bush and 1 percent favored Independent candidate Ralph Nader.

The poll had a margin of error of plus/minus 3.5 percentage points.

Those survey results suggest the second debate between Kerry and Bush in St. Louis Friday did little to affect the race for the White House, although most people thought Kerry won the debate, CNN reported.

However, the first debate in Florida helped Kerry tighten the race -- a poll taken Sept. 24-26 had Bush leading 52 percent to the Massachusetts senator's 44 percent. But following the first debate, the poll numbers moved to a 49 percent tie.
