Polls show Florida presidential race tight

ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 7 (UPI) -- Polls of voters in Florida, the nation's biggest swing state, show the race between President Bush and John Kerry is getting tighter.

In a poll by Mason-Dixon Polling & Research Co. for the Orlando Sentinel and WESH-TV, Bush holds a 48-44 percent lead with 2 percent of likely voters favoring consumer crusader Ralph Nader, 1 percent for other candidates and 5 percent undecided.

Bush's lead in the poll conducted Monday and Tuesday was within the margin of error of plus or minus 4 points.

The poll in Florida, also conducted for the Tampa Tribune and WFLA-TV, also shows Bush's job approval rating has fallen to 49 percent, compared to 58 percent in July 2003.

Other recent polls show the race as extremely close.

An American Research Group poll published Wednesday showed Kerry leading 47-45 percent with 2 percent for Nader and 6 percent undecided. That poll also had a 4 percent margin of error.
