Kerry pulls into narrow lead in Florida

WASHINGTON, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- U.S. Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry now has a narrow lead in Florida, Wednesday's American Research Group poll indicates.

Kerry drew the support of 47 percent of the likely Florida voters surveyed compared to 45 percent for incumbent George Bush. Kerry's 2 point lead is inside the survey's 4 percentage point error margin.

Liberal independent candidate Ralph Nader took 2 percent in the survey, conducted Oct. 2-5, while 6 percent said they remained undecided.

The poll was taken of 600 likely voters, 38 percent of whom were Republicans, 42 percent were Democrats and 20 percent said they were independent. For comparison, exit polls in the state's 2000 presidential contest showed the electorate was 38 percent Republican, 40 percent Democrat and 22 percent independent or other.
