Israel likely to heighten security wall

TEL AVIV, Israel, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Israel is considering raising the height of the security barrier it is building in East Jerusalem, Israel Radio reported Tuesday.

The radio based its report on comments by acting Public Security Minister Gideon Ezra who toured the barrier area.

Israel is building an eight-meter-high wall to prevent Palestinian militants from entering its capital, which has been the target of suicide bombers.

The wall is still far from finished. There is a fence south of Ramallah and a wall in some sections north of Bethlehem and through Abu Dis.

Palestinians in Gaza once again showed barriers that have effectively prevented incursions would not stop rockets and mortar bomb attacks.

The army spokesman said three Qassam rockets were launched Tuesday. One hit the town of Sderot and the others hit two other communities in the Western Negev. Several people were injured but no material damage was reported.
