Two U.S. officers lost in Rio Grande

BROWNSVILLE, Texas, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- A search was under way Monday along the Rio Grande River near Brownsville, Texas, for two U.S. Border Patrol agents lost when their patrol boat capsized.

Daniel Doti, a patrol spokesman, said three agents were thrown into the river late Sunday near Los Indios, about 22 miles from Brownsville. The third agent was rescued and hospitalized in Harlingen.

Doti said the Coast Guard had joined the border patrol and state officers in searching the river that is currently about 10 feet above its normal level.

Patrol officials said the boat was on routine patrol watching for illegal immigrants or smugglers when it capsized, apparently accidentally.
