Moore wins Wis. U.S. House nomination

MILWAUKEE, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- State Sen. Gwen Moore won the Democratic nomination to Congress from Wisconsin's 4th District, the state's first African-American nominee of a major party.

Moore will face Republican Gerald Boyle in the fall election.

Boyle upset Corey Hoze, 35, an African American former state and federal official. Moore, 53, would be the first black congressman from Wisconsin if she wins election Nov. 2 to succeed retiring U.S. Rep. Jerry Kleczka.

Former U.S. Army officer Tim Michels won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate and will face incumbent Democratic Sen. Russell Feingold, who is seeking a third term.

Michels, a 42-year-old millionaire construction executive beat three other candidates including a millionaire car dealer, a lawyer and a veteran state senator in Tuesday's GOP primary.
