PM Rabin's murderer 'on a hunger strike'

TEL AVIV, Israel, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin's murderer, Yigal Amir, began a hunger strike, a woman who claims to be his wife said.

The Prisons' Service denied it.

Amir appeared Tuesday at the High Court of Justice in Jerusalem demanding conjugal rights with Larissa Trembovler, a divorcee whom he claims to have married by proxy a fortnight ago. The court postponed its decision on his demand.

Trembovler complained prison authorities have worsened their treatment of Amir, cutting the time he is allowed to use a phone from three hours to 15 minutes a day, and denying him books. She complained prison guards would not let them hold hands during their meeting.

Prison Service spokesman Ofer Lefler said Amir has plenty of food in his cell, cooks for himself, and has not taken an ounce of food out of his cell.
