Russia: We'll strike terror anywhere

MOSCOW, Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Still reeling from last week's deadly terror strike on a school, a senior Russian military officer vowed Wednesday to strike at terrorists wherever they are.

After meeting with NATO Supreme Allied Commander for Europe James Jones, Chief of General Staff Yuri Baluyevsky made the vow to reporters in Moscow, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.

"As for preventive strikes at terrorists' bases, we'll certainly take all actions to eliminate terrorists' bases in any region of the world," Baluyevsky said.

Elsewhere, President Vladimir Putin ruled out any discussion with Chechen or any other rebel groups.

"We are ready to show a flexible position and talk to everyone, except those who enjoy themselves, firing shots at children," Putin said.

The disastrous takeover of the school in Beslan killed at least 350 people, many of them young children. Only one of a suspected 30 of the captors is in custody in Moscow. Many of the others were killed while some are believed to have escaped.
