NEW YORK, Sept. 3 (UPI) -- Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton said Friday her husband, former President Bill Clinton, will undergo heart surgery in New York Saturday.
The former president began complaining of chest pain and shortness of breath Thursday and went to the hospital near their Westchester, N.Y., home, Sen. Clinton said during an appearance in Syracuse.
She said initial tests were negative and the former president was sent home. Doctors, however, called him back for additional tests Friday morning and he was advised to undergo heart surgery as soon as possible.
Clinton, 58, is hospitalized at Columbian-Presbyterian Hospital in Manhattan.
At a campaign appearance in Pennsylvania, President Bush said his predecessor "is in our thoughts and prayers" and wished him a speedy recovery.
The former president had been scheduled to head to the New York State Fair on Friday with his wife. She also canceled her appearance.
