SEATTLE, Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Seattle authorities have named a convicted serial killer as their suspect in another murder which occurred in 1968.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer said Thursday that James Dwight Canaday confessed to the stabbing death of 16-year-old Sandra Bowman during an interview at the prison where he was sent in 1969 for the killings of two other young women.

Canaday, 56, was being transferred from the penitentiary to Seattle Thursday to face formal charges in the Bowman case. Bowman was stabbed 57 times in her Seattle apartment while her husband was at work.

The P-I said Canaday had been working for the city water department at the time and had randomly knocked on Bowman's door. He admitted to the slaying when police detectives told him the killer had left a DNA sample at the crime scene.
