Australia's PM critical of Green party

SYDNEY, Aug. 30 (UPI) -- Australian Prime Minister John Howard Monday said his government was just as "warm" and "fuzzy" on the environment as the Green party.

Howard also said on the first day of his re-election campaign that the Australian Greens were "radicals" with "kooky" policies on drugs, the Australian reported Tuesday.

"People have got to understand the true nature of the Greens: the Greens have an agenda way beyond the environment," Howard told Sydney radio station 2GB.

"They have a whole lot of other very, very kooky policies in relation to things like drugs and all of that sort of stuff and new taxes and whatever, which people never talk about because they try and portray themselves as a one-issue party."

However, Greens Campaign Director Andrew Burke said it was no secret his party advocated policies beyond the environment including: the Iraq war, the free-trade agreement with the United States, same-sex relationships and opposition to tax cuts.
