SEOUL, Aug. 25 (UPI) -- South Korea warned China Wednesday against "distorting" the history of an ancient Korean kingdom, saying it would damage diplomatic relations.
The warning came one day after the two nations agreed to resolve their row over Beijing's claim to Koguryo Kingdom, which ruled from 37 B.C. to A.D. 668 the upper part of the Korean peninsula and much of what is today Manchuria in China.
"If there is another attempt by China to distort the history of Koguryo, it will have to endure damage to bilateral relations," Vice Foreign Minister Choi Young-jin said at an interview with a local radio station.
"The Chinese government must have learned the seriousness. I think there will be no distortion attempt," he said.
Choi led this week's negotiations with China, which was represented by his newly appointed counterpart, Wu Dawei, on the history dispute, which was triggered as China claimed that Koguryo was party of its history.
