SANTA DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- The Dominican Republic's new president has awarded top jobs to four officials under investigation for fraud, the BBC reported Saturday.
The four are awaiting trial for the disappearance of $100 million from the nation's Temporary and Minimal Employment Program during the first administration of newly re-elected Pres. Leonel Fernandez.

He won a landslide election victory in May on promises to fight corruption and restore the economy.
Fernandez was inaugurated this week and returns to power in a state hit by high inflation and 33 percent unemployment.
