Jackson security increased after threats

SANTA MARIA, Calif., Aug. 17 (UPI) -- Sources close to the Michael Jackson molestation case in Santa Maria, Calif., said Tuesday security has been increased after threats involving the pop star.

The sources told CNN the threats had to do with inflicting bodily harm on the singer and, as a result, security precautions at the court have been heightened.

Jackson did not attend the pretrial hearing Tuesday, but he and his family attended Monday.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff's investigator Jeff Klapakis, the lead investigator on the case, testified Tuesday the sheriff's department did not know investigator Brad Miller worked for Jackson's ex-attorney Mark Geragos.

Jackson's attorney argues since Miller worked for Geragos, the police search of Miller's office violated client-attorney privilege.

The investigator said search warrants were obtained by Miller's office because the mother of the alleged victim said some items belonging to her might be there.

Jackson has pleaded innocent to seven counts of performing lewd or lascivious acts on a child under 14 and two counts of administering an intoxicating agent.
