WASHINGTON, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- A national poll released Friday indicates U.S. President Bush leads presidential hopeful John Kerry 50 percent to 47 percent among likely voters.
However, the candidates are tied at 47 percent among respondents in the general population, the Gallup poll found. Among respondents who were registered voters Bush held a 1-point lead, 48 percent to 47 percent.
The addition of independent candidate Ralph Nader only tightened the margin between the candidates among likely voters. In a three-way race, 48 percent of respondents chose Bush vs. 46 percent for Kerry, D-Mass., and 3 percent for Nader.
The findings were little changed from last week.
The poll's results are based on telephone interviews conducted Aug. 9-11 with 1,017 U.S. adults. The margin of error is 3 percentage points.
