WASHINGTON, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Independent U.S. presidential candidate Ralph Nader has been branded a bigot by the Anti-Defamation League, the Washington Post reported Thursday.
The spat began earlier this summer when Nader said the Bush administration and Congress were "puppets" of the Israeli government. That drew an angry response from the Jewish group.
Furthering the exchange, Nader is scheduled to release his letter of response to the ADL Thursday. The Post said the letter challenges the league to provide a recent example of when U.S. leaders pursued a policy opposed by the Israeli government.
Abraham Foxman, the national director of the league is still angry over the former consumer rights advocate's puppet reference.
"What he said smacks of bigotry," Foxman said.
Both President Bush and Democratic nominee John Kerry strongly support Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, the newspaper said.
