ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Pakistan said Wednesday it would release 449 Indian prisoners as a goodwill gesture toward New Delhi.

Forty-one of the Indians were detained for visa violations. The other 408 were all fisherman who strayed into Pakistani waters while fishing. The announcement was made on state-run Pakistan Television.

The gesture comes as Indian and Pakistani officials ended two days of talks on terrorism and drug trafficking in Islamabad.

The talks are part of warming ties between the two nuclear-armed rivals.
