Nader demands apology from black House Dems

WASHINGTON, July 14 (UPI) -- Independent presidential candidate Ralph Nader has asked the Congressional Black Caucus for an apology for the use of racial epitaph in a meeting last month.

The Hill newspaper reported Wedensday that the long-time consumer activist sent a letter Tuesday to the chairman of the group of black House Democrats, Elijah Cummings, D-Md., demanding an apology from Rep. Melvin Watt, D-N.C., for using an "obscene racial epitaph" to describe him.

Nader alleges in the two-page letter that Watt told Nader he was just another white man trying to tell blacks what to do.

"It's all about your ego, another (explicative) arrogant white man," Nader qoute's Watt's as telling him.

The meeting in question was reportedly particularly contentious with Nader not responding well to CBC warnings that he was taking votes away from Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry of Massachusetts and members of the CBC present reportedly yelling at Nader.

Caucus members angrily rejected the letter with Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., even questioning Nader's mental health

"He ain't playing with a full deck," Clyburn, caucus vice chairman, told The Hill.
