Quake rocks northeastern Ohio

CLEVELAND, June 30 (UPI) -- The U.S. Geological Survey confirmed Wednesday what residents in northeast Ohio suspected: that an earthquake had shaken their region.

The survey said the Lake County quake registered 3.3 on the Richter Scale, WEWS-TV, Cleveland, reported.

It hit about midnight and could be felt in Perry, Madison and Painesville.

"There has been a lot of activity in that area over the past four or five years. In fact, a year ago June 30, we had another small quake just off the shore 5 miles north of Fairport Harbor," said Mark Johnson, a WEWS-TV meteorologist.

Johnson said northeast Ohio has experienced about six earthquakes over the past five years.
