Conn. street closed City Hall area emptied

HARTFORD, Conn., June 30 (UPI) -- Hartford, Conn., police closed part of a street and evacuated a city hall floor Wednesday after a worker reported finding a suspicious substance.

A spokesman for Mayor Eddie Perez said the FBI ordered the first floor of the city hall evacuated after the substance was found, the Hartford Courant reported.

Jackie Baker, an employee of the city's management and budget office, said someone opened an envelope in the tax office and discovered a powder and a threatening note.

Authorities did not immediately identify the substance.
