Ralph Nader gets wish; Greens bypass him

WASHINGTON, June 28 (UPI) -- Presidential hopeful Ralph Nader got his wish and was bypassed as a candidate by the Green Party, which Nader says is shrinking, the Washington Post reports.

Nader criticized the Green Party for nominating Texas attorney David Cobb as its presidential candidate instead of just endorsing Nader, who headed the Green ticket for three election cycles.

The party held its national nominating convention in Milwaukee during the weekend.

Nader said by endorsing him, the party would have gained higher visibility and better fundraising opportunities. Because of his vice presidential running mate, Peter Miguel Camejo, it also had the potential to attract Latino voters.

Weeks ago, Nader made it clear he did not want to be the party nominee for a third time because he is trying to expand his appeal. The newspaper said he hoped the party would end up nominating no one and would instead endorse him, which would have helped get his name on ballots in 22 states and the District of Columbia, where the Green Party has secured space for a name.
