Ill. GOP senate nominee won't quit

CHICAGO, June 21 (UPI) -- Illinois Republican Senate nominee Jack Ryan vows to remain in the race despite allegations he asked his former wife to perform in sex clubs.

The allegations were made by actress Jeri Ryan, star of television's "Star Trek: Voyager" and "Boston Public," in unsealed custody documents released by a family court judge in California, where the couple divorced in 1999.

Jeri Ryan said she refused her husband's requests during visits he compelled her to make to sex clubs in New Orleans, Paris and New York.

Jack Ryan denies the allegations and refused to discuss the subject during a Monday evening news conference. Several of his supporters spoke on his behalf.

"My intention is to stay in the race," he said.

Ryan said he had documents in the custody battle sealed to protect their son, whom he described as a special needs child.

Ryan badly trails Democrat Barack Obama in recent polls.
