Cannon leads going into June 22 primary

SALT LAKE CITY, June 21 (UPI) -- Recent polling in Utah's 3rd Congressional District shows U.S. Rep. Chris Cannon leading his opponent in Tuesday's GOP primary by 21-points.

Cannon, who is fighting an aggressive challenge from ex-Utah GOP state Rep. Matt Throckmorton, drew the support of 44 percent of the 302 voters surveyed for the Deseret News and KSL-TV in Salt Lake City, while Throckmorton polled at just 23 percent.

The poll indicates Cannon, a four-term member of the House, leads in all categories by double-digits and is ahead, 58 percent to 17 percent, among voters who identify themselves as Republicans.

The Dan Jones and Associates poll was conducted June 14 to 17 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5.5 percent.
