Court to consider appeals to indict Sharon

JERUSALEM, June 20 (UPI) -- Israel's High Court of Justice will consider several appeals against an attorney general's decision not to indict Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and his son.

Last Tuesday, Israeli Attorney General Menahem Mazuz decided there was insufficient evidence to indict the two men for receiving bribes. The bribes were allegedly from an entrepreneur who reportedly sought their help in obtaining a Greek island on which to build a $15 billion resort. At that time Sharon was Israel's foreign minister.

On March 28. State Attorney Edna Arbel recommended indicting the Sharons, and filed charges against contractor David Appel. Arbel has since been appointed a Supreme Court judge.

The Ha'aretz news service said Israel Justice Ministry legal experts doubted the judges would order Mazuz to indict Sharon. However, they might order Mazuz to reconsider his decision, Ha'aretz said.
