Hastert to lead Normandy delegation

WASHINGTON, June 1 (UPI) -- U.S. House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert said Tuesday he will lead a congressional delegation to pay tribute on the 60th anniversary of the D-Day invasion.

The delegation will stop in Cambridge, England, on June 4, to participate in a wreath laying ceremony at the American Cemetery, and then traveling to a June 5 visit at Omaha Beach prior to the June 6 commemoration.

"I look forward to leading this very special Congressional delegation trip to Normandy to help pay tribute to the great sacrifices made by our allies and our soldiers in defense of freedom," Hastert said.

Other members of the delegation include U.S. Reps. John Dingell, D-Mich.; Charlie Rangel, D-N.Y.; Ralph Regula, R-Ohio; Ike Skelton, D-Mo.; Peter King, R-N.Y.; John Shadegg, R-Ariz.; Todd Tiahrt, R-Kan.; and Randy Forbes, R-Va. Former House Republican Leader Robert Michel of Illinois, a World War II veteran, will also be a member of the delegation.
