Bush, Chinese chief discuss Iraq, Taiwan

BEIJING, May 29 (UPI) -- President Bush and his Chinese counterpart, Hu Jintao, discussed Iraq and Taiwan on the telephone Saturday, the Chinese Foreign Ministry says.

Xinhua, China's official government news agency, reports that Hu told Bush he believes Iraq should resume complete sovereignty with an election as soon as possible. Bush briefed Hu on the United States draft resolution on Iraq that has been submitted to the United Nations Security Council.

On Taiwan, Bush said that the United States remains committed to a "one-China" policy. Hu said the separatist movement in Taiwan is the biggest danger to stability on the Taiwan Straits.
