Argentine's Kirchner gets good ratings

BUENOS AIRES, May 25 (UPI) -- Eight of 10 Argentines approve of President Nestor Kirchner one year into his presidency, the daily Clarin reported Tuesday.

Clarin cited a survey released by the Center of Public Opinion Studies, which found 60 percent of those queried had a good perception of the government.

Among the country's ministers, Roberto Lavagna, the economic incumbent, rated Kirchner at 9 points on a scale of 10. The Minister of Social Development and sister of the leader Alicia Kirchner gave him 8.22 points.

Argentine's economy has expanded nearly 12 percent during the past year. Those economic improvements, coupled with the government's credibility, were issues that curried the most favor among those surveyed.

Unemployment and insecurity were deemed the most critical pending tasks of the president.

According to Clarin, only five percent of those interviewed had a negative image of the president.

Clarin did not provide the number of citizens surveyed, the date the survey was conducted, or the margin of error.
