Nebraska reported at least 12 tornadoes, and Iowa counted 17 in a weekend that also left parts of Michigan and Ohio flooded and hundreds of thousands in the upper Midwest briefly without power.

Canada did not escape, either: A tornado that struck southwestern Ontario during the weekend may have been the strongest to hit the province in eight years, and Environment Canada officials are warning there could be more violent weather this season, the Toronto Star reported.

Nebraska and Iowa each reported one storm-related fatality.

The storms continued until late Sunday, with yet another twister striking Michigan after dark between Flint and Saginaw.

Weather forecasters warned Monday of large hail, tornadoes and flooding rains in an area from central Kansas and Nebraska eastward, weather.com said.

Isolated strong storms may also target parts of the Ohio Valley, Pennsylvania and New York, including New York City.
