When police and sheriff's deputies went to the cemetery, they could not find the woman or Hibbs. The woman later contacted police.

The woman was able to get away, but police did not say how long she was allegedly held against her will.

Hibbs was arrested Thursday at Cowan Lake State Park by Clinton County sheriff's deputies and was being held at the county jail, police Sgt. Bob Martin said.

Hibbs is well-known in Wilmington as editor of the town's newspaper, the Wilmington News-Journal. Investigators said Hibbs was familiar professionally with the woman he allegedly kidnapped.
