Putin vows revenge for 32 killed by bomb

GROZNY, Russia, May 9 (UPI) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed revenge Sunday for the death of Chechnya's President Akhmad Kadyrov and 31 others in a Grozny bomb explosion.

Kadyrov was in a VIP section when the landmine exploded in Grozny's Dynamo Stadium during a ceremony celebrating Russia's WWII victory, the BBC reported Sunday.

A spokesman for Russia's emergency situations ministry a second landmine was found following the evacuation of the stadium.

Kadyrov's death is being seen as a massive blow to the Kremlin's attempts to restore order in Chechnya and suspicion immediately fell on rebels who have been fighting for independence for more than a decade, the BBC said.

"There can be no doubt that retribution is inevitable for those whom we are fighting today," Putin said.

Chechen interior ministry officials said at least 32 people were killed and 46 injured.
