New director of Clinton Library selected

COLLEGE PARK, Md., May 5 (UPI) -- David E. Alsobrook has been selected as director of the Clinton Presidential Library in Little Rock, Ark., the U.S. National Archives announced Wednesday.

"I am very pleased with the appointment of David Alsobrook to the position of director of the William J. Clinton Presidential Library," said President Clinton. "Dr. Alsobrook has the experience, the credentials and temperament needed to guide and direct this library. We share the common goal of making history available and accessible. I look forward to working with him." The appointment is effective immediately.

Alsobrook has spent the last four years as the director of the Clinton Presidential Materials Project, overseeing the transfer of presidential files from the White House to a temporary facility in Little Rock. He was also responsible for the transfer of President George H.W. Bush's documents to Texas, and subsequently served as the director of that presidential library.

The Clinton Library, which will be dedicated Nov. 18 in Little Rock, will be the 11th presidential library operated by the National Archives, and will house more than 75 million pages of official and personal papers and 1,850,000 photographs.
