U.N. nuke chief to visit Israel

VIENNA, April 28 (UPI) -- The head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog will visit Israel in July, the Israeli ambassador to the agency said Wednesday.

Israel Radio quoted Gavriela Gafni, Israel's representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency, as saying Mohammed ElBaradei's trip, most likely in July, will be a routine one.

Israel is suspected of possessing nuclear weapons but neither confirms nor denies their existence.

Gafni said that policy would not change in the near future, Israel Radio reported.

Israel is not a signatory to the nuclear non-proliferation treaty and so is not subject to international supervision.
