Korean impeachment hearing delayed

SEOUL, April 27 (UPI) -- The South Korean Constitutional Court decided Tuesday to postpone its final hearing of President Roh Moo-hyun's impeachment trial to Friday afternoon.

The delay means the court may not have a verdict before mid-May, the Korea Times reported.

The court issued the postponement after state prosecutors refused to disclose investigative records concerning Roh's aides. Lawyers for the National Assembly say the records are critical to the case.

The court must now decide whether to grant the lawyers' request. If six of the nine justices uphold the Assembly's vote to impeach Roh, he will be immediately removed from office.
