Pro-government Yemen daily slams U.S.

SANAA, Yemen, April 19 (UPI) -- A pro-government Yemeni daily charged Monday U.S. consent and silence encouraged Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to carry out assassination policies.

Commenting on Israel's weekend assassination of Hamas chief in Gaza Abdel Aziz Rantisi, the daily al-Thawra said: "The insolent praise by the generals of the Zionist entity for the assassinations would not have happened if it wasn't for the total American support of Sharon's policy that contradicts the road map for peace in the Middle East and for the silence of the Arabs who it is obvious have no weight."

The paper slammed as "shocking" Washington's blind support of Sharon's policies.

"That will further encourage Israel to continue its crimes against the Palestinian people, notwithstanding international resolutions and peace principles," it said.

It urged the international community to act swiftly to deter Israel and the "looming danger before it is too late and before the Zionist entity destroys all chances for peace."

Israel has labeled leaders of Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other Muslim militant groups as targets of assassination in an effort to prevent suicide attacks inside Israel.
