GAZA CITY, Gaza, April 18 (UPI) -- Tens of thousands of mourning Palestinians Sunday took to the streets of Gaza City before burying assassinated Hamas leader Abdel Aziz Rantisi.
Hundreds of masked gunmen representing al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, better known as Hamas, took part in the funeral procession, as demonstrators shouted: "Revenge, revenge."
The masked gunmen vowed to strike against Israel to avenge Rantisi, who was killed during a Saturday Israeli helicopter air strike in Gaza.
A Hamas leader, Akram Haniyeh, told United Press International the assassination of Rantisi was "carried out by the Israelis, but with an American decision." He claimed President George Bush had given Sharon permission to do as he pleases in the Palestinian territories.
Haniyeh vowed that resistance against Israel would continue, adding "the blood of our martyrs will not go to waste."
