Schroeder sues over picture in crosshairs

WASHINGTON, April 15 (UPI) -- German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder has told a publisher to change the cover of a book that depicts his face in the sights of a gun.

The book, "The End of the Chancellor - The Final Saving Shot," is a murder mystery in which a pharmacist shoots a German chancellor whose economic policies he believes have ruined him, German newspaper Berliner Zeitung reports.

The cover and third page of the book bear pictures of Schroeder's face seen through the crosshairs of an assassin's scope.

Schroeder has sued the publisher of the book in a Hamburg court to have the picture removed.

Schroeder made no public statement about the case. Many Germans are comparing it to a 1992 case in which former Chancellor Helmut Kohl responded to a planned television program about an attack on a German chancellor by telling the station never to show anything that depicted an act of violence against a representative of the German state.
